दुनिया में कई विचित्र जीव पाए जाते हैं, जो अपनी खास गतिविधियों के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। ऐसा ही एक जीव ऑक्टोपस (Octopus) है। जब ऑक्टोपस के बच्चे अंडे से निकलने वाले होते हैं तो उनकी मां खाना-पीना छोड़ देती है। इस दौरान ऑक्टोपस अपनी चमड़ी को नोच-नोचकर खा जाते हैं। अंडे देने के बाद ऑक्टोपस के शरीर में प्रेगनेनोलोन और प्रोजेस्टरॉन हॉर्मोनल रिलीज होते हैं। इसलिए ऑक्टोपस ऐसा करते हैं।
