भगवान शिव के 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में केदारनाथ 11 वें स्थान पर है। पौराणिक ग्रंथों में केदारनाथ को लेकर कथा मिलती है कि सतयुग में भगवान विष्णु नर और नारायण का रूप धारण करके अलकनंदा नदी के किनारे तपस्या कर रहे थे। उनकी तपस्या से खुश होकर भगवान शिव खुद ही स्वयंभू शिवलिंग के रूप में स्थापित हो गए। इस स्थान को केदार खंड कहा जाता था। तभी से भगवान शिव के इस ज्योतिर्लिंग को केदारनाथ कहा गया।
How did Kedarnath get its name Kedar?
Kedarnath is the 11th among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. In mythological texts, there is a story about Kedarnath that in Satyuga, Lord Vishnu was doing penance on the banks of Alaknanda river by taking the form of Nar and Narayan. Pleased with his penance, Lord Shiva himself established himself as a self-manifested Shivling. This place was called Kedar Khand. Since then this Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva was called Kedarnath.
